Parma Heights, Ohio- For the past few games Fairview had struggled to get run support. They managed to break that curse Monday as they beat the Valley Forge Patriots 10-2. It was another great performance on the mound for Ben Leslie as he pitched a very nice game en route to victory.
Fairview would strike first in the first inning. After two straight outs to begin the game Tyler Danburg would single and would be brought home on a Jack Burke double the following at-bat. The Pats would come back with two of their own in the bottom in the first to make it 2-1.
Ben Leslie would begin the top of the second by taking a pitch to the kneecap like a trooper before stealing second. Alex Barnhart would get on with a single before stealing second. The stolen base by Barnhart would allow Leslie to come home and tie the game. Mikey Rizzo would bring home Barnhart the following at-bat with his first varsity RBI. Sean McNamara would keep the fireworks going by bringing home Rizzo on an RBI single. The Pats would manage to stop the bleeding after this but Fairview would take back the lead. Forge would load the bases with one out in the bottom of the second but Leslie would pick up a strikeout and a popout to escape with no damage.
The Warriors would go one-two-three in the top of the third. Leslie would once again work himself out of trouble in the third to keep the score at 4-2.
Fairview would explode in the fourth, batting through the entire order. Alex Barnhart would begin things with a leadoff double. Rizzo would pick up his second RBI after a single. Sean McNamara would destroy a ball to deep center for an RBI triple. He would then be brought home by a Josh Hill RBI single. After a single and a walk, Enrique Lopez would hit one to third that the Pats third baseman misplayed allowing two runs to score. Alex Barnhart would drive in the final run for Fairview with an RBI single. Leslie would then send the Patriots down in order in the bottom of the fourth.
The Pats would respond by sending Fairview down in order in the top of the fifth. Two errors would allow the Patriots to threaten but Leslie would strand the runners to keep the score at 10-2.
Tyler Danburg would lead off the sixth with a single but the next three Warriors would go down. After two straight strikeouts to begin the bottom of the sixth, Valley Forge would single twice before Leslie got a flyout to Mikey Rizzo for the third out.
Fairview would get two runners on with walks but couldn’t get them to score. The Patriots would single twice in the seventh but couldn’t get anyone around to score. This would seal a 10-2 victory for Fairview. The Fairview offense exploded for ten runs behind another complete game from Ben Leslie.
Fairview 4-7 (2-5 GLC) with the win. They will be right back at it tomorrow at Bohlken against Holy Name.
