As last Wednesday’s Senior Night victory over North Olmsted was triumphant, Fairview was looking to follow up their performance to a day prior to Thursday’s match versus conference foe Brookside. With a win, the Lady Warriors would clinch a share of the conference title.
Brookside began the game scoring first on a breakaway goal that got past Fairview Jr. Goalkeeper Gabby Biggs. But that would be the last for Brookside scoring wise, as Warrior Sr. Molly Weir tied on a free kick to the top left corner of the goal. Following her late in the half was who else but So. Julia Costas who put a ball in the net’s upper-right half for a Fairview goal and a lead. It was all Fairview after leading at the half 2-1.
Goals in the second half for Fairview were as followed: Sr. Rachel Coyne broke free down the left corner and placed a ball over the goalie’s head for a goal, then soon after Molly Weir scores on a penalty kick from seven yards out. Jr. Alexis Faile also put in a goal off of a rebound in the Lady Warriors’ favor, and Julia Costas with her second of the night towards the end of the game.
Sidenote: With two goals versus Brookside Thursday evening, Fairview So. Julia Costas surpassed Buckeye’s Reagan McCourt for third-most goals in conference play with thirteen.
With Fairview’s win versus Brookside 6-1, the girls advanced to 6-2 in the conference, and, with Lutheran West falling to Firelands, Fairview clinched a share of the Patriot Athletic Conference Title. Big congratulations to the Fairview Lady Warriors’ soccer team on a great season in PAC play, and much more to come.
