The Fairview Boys Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Oberlin Wednesday for a conference match versus the Phoenix of Oberlin, in pursuit for a 4-0 PAC start (Seeking 4-1-1 Overall).
Things started slowly for Fairview despite Jr. Mauricio Huerta’s goal in the fifth minute of the game. After that, Fairview notched two more goals, another by Huerta and one by Jr. Felipe Medina. But things seemed slow for Fairview, mainly because there was quite the competition gap between Oberlin and Fairview’s matchup and win last Monday versus Buckeye. At the half, it was Fairview 3, Oberlin 0.
After play resumed in the second half, Warrior Head Coach Roger Brooks turned the cruise control on, and decided to give Sr. Defenseman Ryan Starks, who was celebrating his 18th birthday, a present sending him to the Striker position (Starks has been jokingly known for missing wide open shots when given the opportunity). However, Starks got a beautiful ball and delivered a strike to the top right corner of the goal, for Starks’ first goal of the season.
The rest of the game was in the bag for Fairview, as Fairview took advantage of a bad touch by the Phoenix that resulted in an own goal, credited to Ryan Starks. Felipe Medina soonafter tacked on his second goal of the evening assisted by Mauricio Huerta.
Surprisingly, that didn’t stop, as in the final seconds, Turkish foreign exchange student, Jr. Ata Onder scores his first goal in the US; sealing the victory for Fairview 7-0. With that win, Fairview would go on to face tough opponent Hawken Thursday night with a record of 4-1-1, 4-0 PAC.
