Fairview Park, Ohio- The days tick ever so closer until the diamonds of Bohlken Park are occupied once again. On Monday the Fairview Softball team will take the field once again to open their season. Let’s take a look at their upcoming season.
The Previous Year
In their latest season in 2019, the Warriors went 12-13 and fell in the sectional final.
A New Era
Like the Baseball team, the Softball squad also enters a new era, entering the Peter Viola era. Viola brings a wealth of experience to the program as he was a four-year starter on the Columbia Lions Baseball squad at 2nd base from 1990-1993 and has been coaching since 1994. His latest stop was the North Miami Beach Landcrab Baseball Academy, a program he founded in 2011.
The Warriors begin the season with non-conference matchups against former PAC foes in Black River and Columbia. Other non-conference matchups include Beaumont, Padua, Lutheran West, Cuyahoga Heights, and Firelands. The Warriors will also match up against all the GLC opponents at least once.
The Warriors are a primarily senior and freshman laden squad with some juniors and sophomores sprinkled in. The seniors are led by captains Jenna Reitz and Grace Enold, along with Maya Iwais, Olivia Miller, and Javi Gonzalez. Shelby Todd and Juliana Cucit are the only juniors on the squad. Haley Bumgardner is the lone sophomore on the team. The freshmen are a big group and consist of Rebecca Carey, Abby Barnhart, Emma Ginley, Bridget Anderson, and Sammy Reitz.
