Pending school board approval in March, Maggi Szczepaniak will lead the Fairview Volleyball program, beginning in the Fall of 2021.
The position became open when Coach Casey Marcelo, at the helm for the past two seasons, stepped down for professional reasons earlier this Winter. The athletic department made it a priority to get his successor in place as quickly as possible to get off-season workouts up and running and have ample time to plan and start building toward next season. We were lucky to find Coach Szczepaniak early in that search.
“Coach Szczepaniak shares many of the same program growth and development views that we believe in as an athletic department. Coach Marcelo built some strong classes that are currently in place and that are coming up through the middle school that we really want to see fostered and developed. Maggi’s vision of the continued growth and development of our student-athletes as both Volleyball players and people is a great fit. I am excited for what the future holds for her and the program.” said Fairview Athletic Director, Joe Dianetti
Szczepaniak comes to Fairview with 16 years coaching experience and has coached all levels of volleyball from 4th grade up to Varsity. Her most recent position was four years as Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Lakewood HS. Maggi lives in Lakewood with her husband of 25 years, Ray, and her youngest son Braydn, who is a sophomore and plays basketball at St. Ignatius HS. Her son, Ray J, graduates May 2021 from The University of Cincinnati and will be commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. Her daughter, Grayson, played volleyball at The University of New England and is now a 2nd year law student at The University of Maine School of Law. Maggi describes her family as a bunch of gym rats.
“I am so excited to begin working with the athletes of FHS. The girls are fun and motivated and I can’t wait to get on the court and play some volleyball! I look forward to wearing Warrior colors and bringing home the wins!”
There will be a meeting on Monday, March 8th at 6pm in the HS Auditorium to meet Coach Szczepaniak and discuss off season plans. All COVID protocols will be observed and we will also have a simultaneous Google Meet set up for those who wish to attend virtually. If you would like to attend virtually – please fill out this form:
The Volleyball team will unofficially begin their offseason TONIGHT with lifting right after school under the supervision of Head Football Coach, Sean Ranc, until Coach Szczepaniak is able to start in mid-March. They will lift in the weight room on Tuesdays and Fridays after school.
