Per discussion amongst Great Lakes Conference Presidents and Superintendents this afternoon.
The schools in the Great Lakes Conference have collectively decided to delay the start of Phase 3 (the Phase that allows interscholastic competition, full contact drills, etc – per ODH) from August 1st to August 10th. During this delay, the Phase 2 level workouts that teams have been conducting CAN CONTINUE as they have been, but we will not be able to participate in any interscholastic competition with other schools during this delay.
This announcement will result in the following cancellations/postponements
8/5 – GLC Golf Preview
8/6 – EC Golf Invitational
8/6 – Fall Sports Picture Day will be moved to August 27th
8/7 – Tennis vs. Lake Ridge Academy
8/8 – HS Volleyball Scrimmage @ Jackson HS
8/8 – Boys and Girls Soccer Alumni Scrimmages
8/8 – Football Scarlet and Grey Game
As teams proceed, coaches will continue to do the things that they have been doing all summer – symptom checks, rosters of all participants at workouts for contact tracing purposes, etc. to ensure the health and safety of all players and coaches in our community. MASKS are still mandatory, SOCIAL DISTANCING when not actively participating will still be enforced, and all equipment and facilities in use will continue to be SANITIZED frequently.
An important note – per OHSAA rules, all participants MUST still have an updated physical on August 1st. This delay does not change that mandate. Any athlete who does not have an up to date physical for the 2020/2021 school year will not be allowed to participate beginning August 1.
We will re-evaluate our progression into Phase 3 as more information becomes available from Governor Dewine and ODH over the next week.
