We are excited to officially announce that Fairview High School and Mayer Middle School will begin competition in the Great Lakes Conference as soon as the 2019-2020 school year. After being informed in December of 2017 that the Patriot Athletic Conference, in which Fairview has competed for the past 9 seasons, was disbanding, administration began an in-depth search for the best fit for Fairview athletic teams. At the conclusion of this search, it was decided that the Great Lakes Conference was the best fit. The move to the GLC was officially approved by the Board of Education at their April 20th meeting and a transition plan for the 2019-2020 school year was discussed at the monthly Great Lakes Conference Athletic Director meeting on May 9th.
The Warriors, along with other former PAC school Buckeye, will join Rocky River, Bay, Parma, Normandy, Valley Forge, Elyria Catholic, and Holy Name to form the 9-team league that will compete in all current sports offered at Fairview. In addition to the wide variety of sports that are currently offered, joining the GLC will allow the offering of Swimming as a Conference sport and also comes with the possibility of adding both Boys and Girls Bowling and Boys Tennis in the near future.
As a district and athletic department, we look forward to continuing to compete at a high level with some of the top schools in our area. We have athletic relationships with many of the schools in the Great Lakes Conference already. We look forward to continuing those relationships and building new, positive ones with the rest of the league for years to come.
